Questions and answers

What are kindergarten spelling words ending in ck?

Our suggestion is the four-letter words that open each list: back, pack, neck, deck, sick, kick, rock, sock, duck and luck. Each is one consonant, one short vowel and ck.

Why do ck words have a short vowel?

At the end of a word the k sound is usually spelled ck when a short vowel comes right before it, as in pick, and k when one does not, as in took. Inside a word ck does the same: backer, baker.

Which ck words sound like another word?

Sack and sac, check and cheque, speck and spec, sick and sic, pick and pic, tick and tic, rock and roc, dock and doc, block and bloc, knock and nock. The sentence read with each word says which to write.

Why are rack and yuck missing?

The dictionary also spells one meaning of rack as wrack, and yuck as yuk. A word with a second spelling is left off, so every word in a test has one right answer.
