Questions and answers

Where are spelling words ending in y and le?

The le half is here, in Lists 1 to 8. Words ending in a y that says long e, such as happy, are List 5 of the long e words page, so a week on both endings can draw from the two pages.

When is the consonant doubled before le?

In List 1, nibble and hobble double the b after a short vowel, while table and noble keep one b after a long vowel. Rumble and thimble need no doubling: m and b already make two consonants.

Is it le, el or al at the end of a word?

All three spell the same final sound, so each word has to be learned. Lists 1 to 8 hold eighty words with le, List 9 ten with el (panel, satchel, morsel) and List 10 ten with al (metal, postal, journal).
