How it works
None of the 190 words in this career exploration and preparation word search is a job title: they are planning terms, such as Aptitude, Internship and Resume. Twelve lists hold them, and the first puzzle hides 16 in a 15 by 15 grid.

Pick the list for this week's lesson
Under the puzzle, Start from a list has a list for each part of a careers unit. Knowing Yourself holds 22 words, among them the six interest groups, Realistic to Conventional. Resume and Application holds 22, such as Cover letter and Proofread. Goals and Plans spells out SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely.
Quiz the vocabulary from the clues
Tick Show clues, not words. Pupils read "To follow a worker for a few hours or days and watch what the work is like" and hunt for Job shadow. All 190 words carry a one-line meaning, so any list prints as a quiz.
- For a first lesson, pick Easy Career Words: 21 words of 3 to 5 letters, such as Wage, Shift and Hire.
- Job shadow and 22 more two-part entries are hidden as one run, JOBSHADOW. Apprenticeship needs a grid of 14 by 14 or larger.
- Doctor, Plumber, Pilot and the other job titles are on the careers word search.
Questions and answers
Is this the answer key to a career exploration and preparation worksheet?
No. This page builds its own puzzles and every grid is new, so its key will not match a hand-out from a course book or another site. A teacher gets a puzzle on the same vocabulary, with the key for that grid on page 2.
Which career clusters are on the list?
CareerOneStop listed 14 career clusters in September 2026. Career Clusters hides 19 words taken from their names, so a long name gives several: Arts, Entertainment and Design are three entries, and Marketing and Sales two. Supply chain hides as SUPPLYCHAIN.
Which career words are on the list?
The 190 words cover knowing yourself, exploring careers, the career clusters, education and training, the resume, the interview, life at work, the skills employers want and goal setting. No job title or company is listed, and no clue gives career or money advice.
How were the words and meanings checked?
Every term was found on CareerOneStop, the career site sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, in September 2026, and each clue is in our own words. Spellings were looked up in the American Heritage Dictionary; eleven two-word terms, such as Job shadow, follow CareerOneStop.
