A cutaway that shows the way up
A volcano is a vent in the Earth's crust that lets lava, ash and gases escape from a magma chamber below. The Inside a volcano sheet draws that path in red: the chamber at the bottom, the conduit up the middle and the crater at the top.
Eight sheets, 4 or 5 crayons
Four sheets color all 144 squares: Erupting volcano, Inside a volcano, Volcano at night and Ash cloud over a volcano. Brown is in 7 easy keys; the Volcano at night is drawn in black instead.
- The easy Ash cloud over a volcano has only 2 red squares: the crater under the cloud.
- On the Sleeping volcano with a snow cap 15 squares stay white: the snow.
Questions and answers
Which color by number volcano shows the inside?
Inside a volcano. It is cut in half, so the magma chamber and the conduit that rises from it can be colored. Open More options and pick it under Pictures; the detailed grid adds gray and black layers of rock.
Is there a volcano that is not erupting?
Yes, two: the Sleeping volcano with a snow cap and the Crater lake. Neither has lava, so neither needs the red crayon; the other six sheets all do.
How many crayons does the erupting volcano need?
Five, numbered 1 to 5: blue for the sky, yellow for the sparks and the heart of the fountain, red for the lava, brown for the mountain and orange inside the fountain. All five are in a basic box of 8.
