How it works
These spring word puzzles are word scrambles: each spring word is printed with its letters mixed up and a hint under it. Pupils write the word on the line, and the answer key prints on its own page.

Pick a level
Easy holds short words such as Kite, Frog and Bee. Medium, the sheet the page opens on, runs from Robin to Ladybug. Hard is long words: Caterpillar, Dandelion, Wheelbarrow. Each press of New scramble mixes the letters again.
Make it easier or harder
Turn off the hints to make the sheet harder, or add a word bank at the foot. For more spring puzzles, the same season has a word search and a crossword: links are under the tool.
- On a big sheet of long words, underline the first letter of each answer for pupils who get stuck.
- Play mode puts one scramble on the screen at a time: a warm-up for the whole class on the board.
Questions and answers
What age are these spring word puzzles for?
The easy list of 3- to 5-letter words suits kindergarten and first grade with the hints on. The medium list suits grades 2 and 3, and the hard list of 7- to 11-letter words suits grades 4 and up.
Can a scramble have two right answers?
Not on these lists. Every word was checked against a dictionary for anagrams, and words with a second common answer, such as nest (sent) and garden (danger), were left out.
Do these printable spring word puzzles have an answer key?
Yes. The key prints on a separate page after the puzzle, so you can hand out the puzzle and keep the answers.
