How it works
A summer word scramble for the last days of school, camp or a car ride. Thirty summer words come jumbled in three lists, each with a clue such as "A hanging bed of cloth or net".

Easy, medium or hard
Sun, Tent and Wave fill the easy list. The medium list, which the page opens on, goes from Picnic to Hammock. Watermelon, Sandcastle and Thunderstorm lead the hard list, with up to 12 letters.
Print a stack before the trip
Press New scramble and print after each press: every sheet mixes the letters a new way, so siblings get different puzzles. The key prints last, so an adult can keep it.
- Without the clues the hard list is a real challenge for adults too: switch Hints off for a family round.
- For a mixed-age group, print the easy list for the youngest and the hard list for the rest.
Questions and answers
What age are these summer word puzzles for?
Kindergarten and first grade manage the easy list of 3- to 5-letter words with clues. The medium list fits grades 2 and 3; the hard list, up to 12 letters, fits grade 4 to adults.
Do the scrambles have one answer each?
Yes. The words were checked against a dictionary for anagrams, and words such as pool (loop) and melon (lemon) were left out, so a solver never finds a second real word.
Is there a summer word search too?
Yes, the summer word search hides summer words in a grid of letters; its link is under this tool. Scrambles practise spelling, while a word search practises spotting.
