Chance From 0 to 1 has Percent, Ratio, Forecast and Sixth. Coins, Dice, Cards and Spinners has Pips, Suit, Urn and Thirteen. Outcomes and Events has Complement, Independent, Disjoint and Union. Counting and Experiments has Factorial, Permutation, Combination and Thirty-six. People and Ideas has Pascal, Fermat, Bayes and Kolmogorov.

Clues that are small problems

Seven is the sum two dice make most often, 6 ways out of 36. Quarter is the chance of calling two coin flips in a row. A pupil who fills the square has done the math.

  • Hand out a die with Coins, Dice, Cards and Spinners: pupils can see for themselves that the 1 is opposite the 6.

Questions and answers

What grade is the probability crossword for?

Probability Basics suits grades 6 to 8, when chance is first written as a number from 0 to 1. Counting and Experiments and People and Ideas suit grades 8 to 12. These bands are our judgment, not a published standard.

Does the probability crossword puzzle have an answer key?

Yes. Each print ends with the key on a separate sheet: the solved grid and the answers in clue order. Nothing to pay and no account.

What is the difference between an outcome and an event?

An outcome is one possible result of an experiment, such as a 4 on a die. An event is a set of outcomes, such as every even number. Both words are in the basics set.

What is the difference between a permutation and a combination?

In a permutation the order counts, so ABC and CAB are two different ones. In a combination it does not: {A, B} and {B, A} are the same selection. Both are answers in Counting and Experiments.
