Facts worth finding on the multiplication chart 1-200

Multiplication chart 1 to 200: rows 1 to 20, columns 1 to 20. Shown 20 by 20 at a time.

How it works

This multiplication chart 1-200 runs from 1 × 1 to 200 × 200 = 40,000 and shows its 40,000 squares one block of 20 rows at a time. Find takes two numbers, such as 125 and 64, and lands on their square.

What a multiplication chart 1 to 200 holds

Those 40,000 squares hold only 11,131 different answers. One beats the rest: 2520 fills 26 squares, and six answers share second place with 24 each. 105 answers show up a single time, every one a square number on the diagonal. Count a turnaround such as 73 × 137 once and 20,100 facts are left.

Getting around 200 rows

You start on the first block, rows and columns 1 to 20. Every arrow names the rows or columns it will show next. Tap a square to tint its row and column. Find a fact brings any block into view: type 193 and 191, press Go, and 36,863 is picked out.

  • To practice, press New practice chart. Half of the block in view goes blank, 200 boxes, and Check marks what you typed.
  • Row 125 is full of round numbers: every 8 columns the answer is a whole thousand, so 125 × 64 = 8000.

Questions and answers

Does a multiplication chart to 200 mean 200 rows or answers up to 200?

On this page, 200 rows and 200 columns, with answers up to 40,000. An answer of 200 or less needs a factor of 14 or smaller, so all 1,098 such squares lie along the top and left edges. The 1-14 chart ends nearest, at 196.

Does a multiplication chart 200 show the 200 times table?

Yes. On a 200 multiplication chart it is the last row and the last column: the 2 times table with two zeros added. A counting grid of the numbers 1 to 200 is a different tool, the 200 chart.

Where is the multiplication chart 1-150?

Right here. Set Chart size to 1 to 150 and the chart stops at 150 × 150 = 22,500. That chart has 22,500 squares and 6,343 different answers, and five answers tie for most common with 22 squares each: 720, 840, 1260, 1680 and 2520.

Can I print the whole 1-200 chart?

Yes, in four presses. Print 25 pages sends the quarter of the chart around the block in view, 20 by 20 squares a page. Visit each quarter for all 100 pages. Print this part sends one block, plus an answer key if numbers are hidden.

Corners, and where the 1 to 150 setting ends 5

  • 101 × 1 = 101 The first row past the 1-100 chart. 101 is prime, so the answer 101 sits in only 2 squares: here and at 1 × 101.
  • 150 × 150 = 22,500 The last square when the chart size is set to 1 to 150. 15 × 15 = 225, then one zero from each 150. It is also how many squares that smaller chart has.
  • 200 × 1 = 200 The start of the last row. The answer 200 sits in 12 squares: 1 × 200, 2 × 100, 4 × 50, 5 × 40, 8 × 25, 10 × 20 and their turnarounds.
  • 200 × 100 = 20,000 Column 100 is halfway across the 1-200 chart. Row 200 is row 100 doubled, so every answer in it is twice the answer 100 rows higher up the same column.
  • 200 × 200 = 40,000 The last square of the chart. 2 × 2 = 4, then two zeros from each 200. Nothing else on the chart multiplies to 40,000, so it appears once.

Squares on the diagonal, 101 to 200 13

  • 101 × 101 = 10,201 It reads the same in both directions, because 101 × 101 is 10,000 + 200 + 1. It is the first square past the 1-100 chart.
  • 105 × 105 = 11,025 105 is 5 over 100. Add another 5 to get 110 for the front of the answer, then write 5 × 5 = 25 after it.
  • 111 × 111 = 12,321 The answer counts up to 3 and back down again: 1, 2, 3, 2, 1.
  • 112 × 112 = 12,544 Write every number backward and it is still true: 211 × 211 = 44,521.
  • 121 × 121 = 14,641 121 is 11 × 11, so this is four 11s multiplied together. Between 101 and 200 only three squares read the same both ways: this one, 101 × 101 and 111 × 111.
  • 125 × 125 = 15,625 125 is 5 × 5 × 5, so this is six 5s multiplied together. Like 25 × 25 = 625, the answer ends in 625.
  • 128 × 128 = 16,384 128 is seven 2s multiplied together, so this is fourteen 2s. Start at 2 and double 13 times and you land here.
  • 141 × 141 = 19,881 The last answer on the diagonal below 20,000, which is half of the biggest answer on the chart. The next square, 142 × 142, is 20,164.
  • 144 × 144 = 20,736 144 is a dozen dozens, so this is 12 × 12 × 12 × 12.
  • 181 × 181 = 32,761 The top left square of the last block, rows and columns 181 to 200, and the smallest answer in it. 181 is prime, so no other pair on the chart makes 32,761.
  • 195 × 195 = 38,025 To square a number that ends in 5, drop the 5, multiply what is left by the next number up, 19 × 20 = 380, then write 25 after it.
  • 197 × 197 = 38,809 197 is prime, so nothing else multiplies to 38,809. The chart has 105 of these one-time answers, and every one is a square number on the diagonal.
  • 199 × 199 = 39,601 One step up the diagonal from the last corner: 40,000 − 200 − 199.

Round answers from eighths of 1000 4

  • 125 × 8 = 1000 125 is one eighth of 1000, so 8 of them make exactly 1000. That is why row 125 holds so many round answers.
  • 125 × 64 = 8000 64 is 8 eights, so the answer is 8 thousands. 8000 is also 20 × 20 × 20.
  • 125 × 80 = 10,000 On the 1-100 chart 10,000 is the last square and appears once. On this chart it sits in 5 squares: 200 × 50, 125 × 80, their turnarounds, and 100 × 100.
  • 192 × 125 = 24,000 192 is 24 eights, so the answer is 24 thousands. No row above 192 gives a round thousand in column 125 until row 200.

Shortcuts and number patterns 8

  • 101 × 37 = 3737 Multiply any 2-digit number by 101 and the number is written twice. Row 101 does this from column 10 to column 99.
  • 107 × 103 = 11,021 Both are just over 100, by 7 and by 3. Add 3 to 107 to get 110 for the front of the answer, then write 7 × 3 = 21 after it.
  • 111 × 9 = 999 Row 111 writes each single digit three times: 111 × 4 = 444, 111 × 7 = 777, and here 999.
  • 137 × 73 = 10,001 Both numbers are prime, and their answer is 1 more than 10,000. It sits in only 2 squares: here and at the turnaround, 73 × 137.
  • 143 × 77 = 11,011 143 × 7 = 1001, and 77 is 7 × 11, so this is 1001 × 11. The answer reads the same in both directions.
  • 153 × 1 = 153 Cube each digit of 153 and add them up: 1 + 125 + 27 = 153. Only three other 3-digit numbers do this: 370, 371 and 407.
  • 185 × 6 = 1110 185 is 5 × 37, and 37 × 3 = 111, so 6 of them make 1110. Keep going along the row: column 12 holds 2220 and column 18 holds 3330.
  • 193 × 191 = 36,863 The biggest answer on the chart that reads the same in both directions. 191 and 193 are twin primes, 2 apart, so 36,863 sits in only 2 squares.

Common and rare answers 5

  • 126 × 10 = 1260 Set the chart size to 1 to 150 and five answers tie for most common, with 22 squares each: 720, 840, 1260, 1680 and 2520.
  • 149 × 139 = 20,711 139 and 149 are the last two primes on the 1 to 150 setting. With no other factor pair on the chart, 20,711 appears only here and at 139 × 149.
  • 168 × 10 = 1680 A week is 168 hours, so this is the hours in 10 weeks. 1680 is one of six answers that share second place with 24 squares each: 720, 840, 1260, 1440, 1680 and 5040.
  • 180 × 14 = 2520 No other answer fills as many squares of this chart: 26 of them, from 180 × 14 to 56 × 45 and their turnarounds. On the 1-100 chart 2520 fills only 14.
  • 199 × 197 = 39,203 197 and 199 are the last two primes before 200, and they are twin primes, 2 apart. Their answer sits in only 2 squares of the chart.

Shapes, weights and measures 13

  • 108 × 5 = 540 Each angle of a regular pentagon is 108 degrees, and the five of them add up to 540 degrees.
  • 112 × 20 = 2240 A long ton, also called the imperial ton, is 20 hundredweight of 112 pounds each. That makes 2240 pounds.
  • 120 × 3 = 360 Each angle of a regular hexagon is 120 degrees, so three hexagons meet at a point with no gap: a full turn of 360 degrees. Honeycomb cells are hexagons packed this way.
  • 120 × 12 = 1440 A day is 24 hours of 60 minutes: 1440 minutes. 120 minutes is 2 hours, and 12 lots of 2 hours fill the day.
  • 128 × 5 = 640 A US gallon is 128 US fluid ounces, so a 5 gallon bucket holds 640 fluid ounces.
  • 135 × 8 = 1080 In the United States and many other countries a stop sign is an octagon. Each angle of a regular octagon is 135 degrees, and all eight add up to 1080 degrees.
  • 144 × 9 = 1296 A square foot is 144 square inches and a square yard is 9 square feet, so a square yard is 1296 square inches. That is 36 × 36, because a yard is 36 inches.
  • 144 × 12 = 1728 144 is a gross, which is 12 dozen. Twelve gross make a great gross of 1728. A cubic foot is also 1728 cubic inches: 12 × 12 × 12.
  • 160 × 4 = 640 In United States land surveys a quarter section is 160 acres, and four of them make a section of 640 acres. It is the same 640 as 128 × 5.
  • 168 × 52 = 8736 A week is 168 hours, so 52 weeks is 8736 hours. A common year of 365 days has 8760 hours, which is 24 more: the extra day.
  • 168 × 60 = 10,080 A week is 168 hours of 60 minutes, so every week is 10,080 minutes long.
  • 183 × 2 = 366 A leap year has 366 days, so half of one is 183 days.
  • 200 × 2 = 400 A standard outdoor running track is 400 meters around, so a 200 meter race is half a lap.

How this list was compiled: Own work.
