Inside a multiplication chart 100 x 100

Count the squares on a multiplication chart from 1 to 100 and you reach 10,000, yet they hold just 2,906 different answers. 360 and 720 share first place with 18 squares each. 55 answers turn up once, all on the diagonal. Treat 97 × 89 and 89 × 97 as one fact and a multiplication chart through 100 has 5,050 to know.

A printable multiplication chart 1-100 in 25 pages

No multiplication chart printable 1-100 fits one sheet at a readable size, so the screen shows a 20 by 20 block. The arrows wrap round: up from rows 1 to 20 leads to rows 81 to 100. Print this part sends the block in view. Print all 25 pages sends a multiplication chart all the way up to 100 on paper.

  • On a multiplication chart one through 100, answers of 100 or less fill just 482 squares, all in the first 10 rows or columns.

Questions and answers

Is a multiplication chart to 100 about rows or answers?

Here, rows and columns, so answers run to 10,000: a multiplication chart 1-10000. For a multiplication hundreds chart, with answers up to 100, open the 1-10 chart, or mark multiples on the hundreds chart.

Does a multiplication chart 1 100 start at 0 or at 1?

At 1. A multiplication chart 0-100 would add only a row and a column of zeros, since 0 times anything is 0.

What is a 100s multiplication chart?

It can mean the 100 times table alone: 100, 200, 300 and on to 10,000. On this multiplication chart of 100 rows that is the last row: the column number with two zeros.

Is a multiplication chart 1-100 4th grade work?

Not to memorize. Common Core standard 4.NBT.B.5 has fourth graders multiply two 2-digit numbers. Every such answer, 10 × 10 to 99 × 99, is on a multiplication chart that goes up to 100, so use it to check work.

How do I save a multiplication chart 1-100 printable pdf?

Press Print all 25 pages, then pick Save as PDF in the print window. You get the multiplication chart 1 through 100 as 25 pages, Letter or A4, each with a name and date line.

All 42 facts

Corners and the last row 6

  • 99 × 7 = 693 Row 99 is row 100 with one column number taken away. Here that is 700 − 7.
  • 100 × 1 = 100 Row 100 begins in this square. The answer 100 sits in 9 squares: 1 × 100, 2 × 50, 4 × 25, 5 × 20, their turnarounds, and 10 × 10, which is its own turnaround.
  • 100 × 50 = 5000 Half of 10,000. In column 50 every row holds half of its last answer, because 50 is half of 100.
  • 100 × 81 = 8100 The bottom left square of the last block, rows and columns 81 to 100. 8100 sits in 3 squares of the whole chart, and all 3 are in that block: 100 × 81, 90 × 90 and 81 × 100.
  • 100 × 99 = 9900 One square left of the last corner, and exactly 100 short of 10,000. Every answer in row 100 is the column number with two zeros written after it.
  • 100 × 100 = 10,000 The last square of the chart. A square meter is 100 centimeters on each side, so it holds 10,000 square centimeters. A hectare is 100 meters on each side: 10,000 square meters.

Squares on the diagonal, 81 to 100 9

  • 81 × 81 = 6561 The top left square of the last block, rows and columns 81 to 100, and the smallest answer in it. 81 is four 3s multiplied together, so 6561 is eight 3s multiplied together.
  • 85 × 85 = 7225 To square a number that ends in 5, multiply its tens digit by the next number up, 8 × 9 = 72, then write 25 after it.
  • 88 × 88 = 7744 Two doubled digits, 77 and 44. No other square number with 4 digits is written that way.
  • 90 × 90 = 8100 A baseball infield is a square with 90 feet between the bases, so the baselines enclose 8100 square feet. 9 × 9 = 81, then one zero from each 90.
  • 91 × 91 = 8281 The answer reads as two numbers counting down, 82 then 81. No other square number with 4 digits does that.
  • 95 × 95 = 9025 95 is 5 short of 100. Take another 5 off to get 90 for the front of the answer, then write 5 × 5 = 25 after it.
  • 96 × 96 = 9216 96 is 4 short of 100. Take another 4 off to get 92, then write 4 × 4 = 16 after it. 9216 is also 9 × 1024, because 96 is 3 × 32.
  • 97 × 97 = 9409 97 is the 25th prime number and the last one before 100. No other pair on the chart multiplies to 9409, so this answer appears once.
  • 99 × 99 = 9801 One step up the diagonal from the last corner: 10,000 − 100 − 99. Read 9801 backward and you get 1089, which is 33 × 33.

Round answers from quarters and halves 6

  • 84 × 50 = 4200 50 is half of 100, so halve 84 to get 42 and write two zeros.
  • 88 × 75 = 6600 75 is three quarters of 100. A quarter of 88 is 22 and three quarters is 66, so the answer is 66 hundreds.
  • 92 × 25 = 2300 A quarter of 92 is 23, so the answer is 23 hundreds. In column 25, every fourth row lands on a whole number of hundreds.
  • 95 × 20 = 1900 Double 95 to get 190, then write a 0. 95 is 5 short of 100, so the answer is 5 twenties short of 2000.
  • 96 × 25 = 2400 25 is a quarter of 100. A quarter of 96 is 24, so the answer is 24 hundreds.
  • 98 × 50 = 4900 Half of 98 is 49, so the answer is 49 hundreds. 4900 is a square number too: 70 × 70.

Shortcuts and number patterns 8

  • 84 × 36 = 3024 Turn both numbers around and the answer stays the same: 48 × 63 is also 3024.
  • 91 × 11 = 1001 91 is 7 × 13, so this is 7 × 11 × 13 = 1001. Keep going along row 91: column 22 holds 2002, column 33 holds 3003, and column 99 holds 9009.
  • 93 × 13 = 1209 Another pair that survives being flipped: 39 × 31 is 1209 as well.
  • 95 × 85 = 8075 Both numbers are 5 steps from 90, one above it and one below. That makes the answer 25 less than 90 × 90 = 8100.
  • 96 × 94 = 9024 Same tens digit, and the ones digits add up to 10. Multiply 9 by the next number up to get 90, then write 6 × 4 = 24 after it.
  • 98 × 97 = 9506 Both are just under 100, short by 2 and by 3. Take 3 from 98 to get 95 for the front of the answer, then write 2 × 3 as 06.
  • 99 × 37 = 3663 Row 99 splits every answer in two. The front is the column number minus 1, here 36. The back is 100 minus the column number, here 63. This answer also reads the same both ways.
  • 99 × 91 = 9009 No two 2-digit numbers make a bigger answer that reads the same in both directions. 9009 is 9 × 1001, and 1001 is 7 × 11 × 13.

Common and rare answers 6

  • 83 × 83 = 6889 One of 55 answers that appear only once on the chart. All 55 sit on the diagonal, because every other square has a turnaround with the same answer.
  • 84 × 60 = 5040 5040 is 1 × 2 × 3 × 4 × 5 × 6 × 7. It sits in 8 squares of this chart, among them 90 × 56 and 72 × 70.
  • 90 × 4 = 360 Four right angles of 90 degrees make a full turn of 360 degrees. 360 also shares first place as the most common answer on this chart, in 18 squares.
  • 90 × 8 = 720 Twice 360, and the other most common answer, also in 18 squares. No third answer reaches 18. 720 is 1 × 2 × 3 × 4 × 5 × 6.
  • 97 × 89 = 8633 The last two primes before 100 are 89 and 97. Their answer has no other factor pair on the chart, so 8633 appears only here and at the turnaround, 89 × 97.
  • 100 × 36 = 3600 3600 sits in 11 squares. Only a square number can fill an odd number of squares, because 60 × 60 is its own turnaround. 3600 is also the seconds in an hour.

Sports fields, time and measures 7

  • 90 × 2 = 180 Two right angles of 90 degrees make a straight angle of 180 degrees. The three angles of any triangle add up to the same 180.
  • 90 × 60 = 5400 A soccer match has two halves of 45 minutes, 90 minutes in all. At 60 seconds a minute, that is 5400 seconds of play.
  • 91 × 4 = 364 13 weeks is 91 days. Four lots of 13 weeks make 52 weeks, which is 364 days, 1 day short of a common year of 365.
  • 94 × 50 = 4700 A professional basketball court in the United States is 94 feet long and 50 feet wide, so it covers 4700 square feet.
  • 100 × 3 = 300 An American football field is 100 yards from goal line to goal line. A yard is 3 feet, so that is 300 feet.
  • 100 × 16 = 1600 A pound is 16 ounces, so 100 pounds is 1600 ounces.
  • 100 × 20 = 2000 A dollar is 100 cents, so a 20 dollar bill is worth 2000 cents.
