How it works
Each of these kindergarten writing worksheets prints one sentence starter, such as I can build a ___, above a box to draw in and three-line handwriting rows. The child draws, then finishes the sentence in their own words.

Five sets of starters
Set picks the kind: I like, I can, I see; Home and family; Animals and outdoors; School and friends; and A first story, which gives two sentences to carry on, such as I found a ___. Then I ___. Each set holds 16, and all 80 are listed under the tool.
A starter of your own
Type a starter in the box above the sheet and it replaces ours. Boxes prints 1 to 9 starters a page. With two or more, each starter gets a smaller picture box and fewer rows.
- Text size sets the height of the writing rows too: Large or Extra large suits children who write big.
- For children who are not writing yet, Kind of sheet under More options has Boxes to draw in.
Questions and answers
Is there a kindergarten writing worksheets PDF?
Yes, one you make yourself. Print the sheet and pick Save as PDF where the print window asks for a printer. The file holds the page as shown, with your starter, text size and paper.
What do kindergartners write?
The Common Core writing standards for kindergarten ask for a mix of drawing, dictating and writing to give an opinion, to tell about a topic and to narrate an event. These sheets pair a picture box with one sentence to finish.
Does the child trace the starter or write alone?
Write alone. The starter is printed once above the box in plain letters, and the rows under the box are empty. Sheets with dotted letters to trace are at kindergarten handwriting practice.
How are these different from the 2nd grade writing worksheets?
A second grade prompt asks for a paragraph: a story, an opinion with reasons, a report. A kindergarten starter is the first words of one sentence, and the child adds a word or a few to finish it.
