How it works
These April word puzzles are word scrambles built on the month itself: April Fools' Day, Earth Day, Arbor Day, poetry month and rain. Each word prints jumbled with a hint, and the answer key prints on its own page.

From Joke to Thundercloud
The easy list opens the month with Joke, Prank and Fool. Medium, the sheet the page opens on, holds Recycle, Compost, Poetry and Raincoat. The hard list runs from Galoshes to Thundercloud, at 12 letters.
A sheet for each week
Use Prank and Trick on April 1, the recycling words near Earth Day and Arbor Day words such as Tree and Birdhouse later in the month. Each press of New scramble mixes the letters again.
- On April 1, hand out the sheet with the hints off and tell the class the joke is on them: turn the hints on halfway.
Questions and answers
Are these April word puzzles different from the spring ones?
Yes. The spring word puzzles cover the whole season, with Robin, Tadpole and Daffodil. This page keeps to April: April Fools', Earth Day, Arbor Day and poetry month words, and no word appears on both pages.
What grades are they for?
The easy list of 4- and 5-letter words suits kindergarten to grade 1 with hints on. Medium suits grades 2 and 3, and the hard list of 8- to 12-letter words suits grade 4 and up.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. The key prints on a page of its own after the puzzle. No scramble on the list has a second common answer, so the key is the only right answer.
