Flowers, Mother's Day, field day
The easy list is short garden words: Lilac, Peony, Lawn, Pond. Medium, the opening sheet, holds Maypole, Bouquet, Magnolia and Field day. The hard list reaches Honeysuckle and Hummingbird, at 11 letters.
The last weeks of school
Use a sheet as a quiet task in the busy end-of-year weeks, or before Mother's Day cards. Each press of New scramble deals the letters again.
- Mother, Bouquet and Carnation make a Mother's Day set: pupils can write them on a card after the sheet.
- Honeysuckle splits into honey and suckle: a hint for pupils stuck on 11 letters.
Questions and answers
When is Mother's Day?
In the United States, the second Sunday in May. Mother is on the medium list and Carnation, a flower often given that day, is on the hard list.
How is this different from the April and spring word puzzles?
Those pages hold early-spring words such as Robin, Daffodil and Raincoat. This list is late spring and shares no word with them.
What grades is it for?
The easy list suits kindergarten and grade 1 with hints on. Medium suits grades 2 and 3, and the hard list suits grade 4 and up.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Print gives the puzzle, then the answer key on a page of its own, so you can send the sheet home and keep the key for Monday.
