How it works
These crossword puzzles for 2nd graders open on 8 words of 3 to 6 letters in a small grid, with the word bank printed under the clues. Every clue is one short idea a seven-year-old can read alone.

Three sets
Me and My Day has Teeth, Shirt and Dream. Animals and Nature has Snail, Puddle and Crab. School and Play has Recess, Eraser and Swing.
Print or solve
Print gives Letter or A4 with the answer key last. New puzzle draws another grid from the same set, so neighbours get different ones.
- Once the class is ready, untick Word bank under the clues in More options and see who solves it from the clues alone.
Questions and answers
Are these 2nd grade crossword puzzles too hard for first graders?
Strong readers at the end of first grade can manage them with the word bank on. For children still learning to read, the sight word crossword has tiny grids of words such as Look and Said.
What comes after these puzzles?
The 3rd grade crossword has longer words such as Narrow and Gentle and school subjects such as Fossil and Vowel. The grades are our suggestion, not a published standard.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Every print ends with the answer key on a sheet of its own, and Show all clues and answers, under the puzzle, lists all 60 clues with their answers.
