How it works
This vocabulary exit ticket for 4th grade asks three things about one new word: what it means in the student's own words, a sentence that uses it and a word that means nearly the same. Four print on a page.

4th grade vocabulary skills, one slip each
Four slips follow skills the Common Core language standards name for grade 4: a prefix, root or suffix as a clue (L.4.4.b), a guess checked in the dictionary (L.4.4.c), one word with two meanings (L.4.4), and a synonym and an antonym (L.4.5.c).
An exit ticket for vocabulary lists
For a week's list, one slip has five lines for the words, each with three boxes to check: new to me, know it, can use it. Students copy the list onto it.
- One slip has an open box for a picture of the word above lines for a sentence.
Questions and answers
What goes on a vocabulary exit ticket?
One word and one to three short tasks: say what it means, use it in a sentence, give a synonym or an antonym, draw it, or name an example and a non-example. The slips here cover each of them.
Is there a vocabulary exit ticket template for any word?
Yes. No slip prints a word, so every sheet is a template. Type the word on the Word line, or leave the line for students to fill in.
Do the slips work for 3rd or 5th grade?
Yes. The level comes from the word you choose. The picture slip and the six-to-a-page slip with one sentence ask for the least writing.
