Questions and answers
What are the parts of a tree?
Roots anchor the tree and take in water and nutrients. The trunk holds up the branches, twigs and leaves, which together make the crown. Bark is the outermost layer, and between bark and wood lies the cambium, the growing layer.
What is the difference between deciduous and evergreen trees?
A deciduous tree sheds its leaves each year, usually in autumn. An evergreen has leaves that stay on and keep working all year. Being a conifer does not settle it: the larch is a conifer that drops its needles.
How can you tell how old a tree is?
By its rings. The cut face of a stump shows yearly growth rings, and they can reveal the age of the tree. Dating wood by its rings is a science of its own, called dendrochronology.
Does the tree word search print with an answer key?
Yes. The puzzle is one sheet of Letter or A4, and the key, with each word ringed, is the next page.
