From Pie to Grandparents
The easy list is short kitchen words: Pie, Corn, Oven, Roll. Medium, the opening sheet, holds Turkey, Gravy and Stuffing. The hard list runs to 12 letters with Grandparents, beside Cranberry and Centerpiece.
Before the break, or at the kids' table
Use a sheet on the last school day before the holiday, or print a few for the kids' table while dinner cooks. Each press of New scramble deals the letters differently, so cousins get different sheets.
- Ask pupils to circle the words on their sheet they are grateful for, then write one sentence about one of them.
- For history words such as Mayflower and Plymouth, use the Thanksgiving list of the word scramble maker instead.
Questions and answers
What age are these Thanksgiving word puzzles for?
The easy list of 3- to 5-letter words, with clues, suits kindergarten and first grade. Grades 2 and 3 fit the medium list; the hard list, up to 12 letters, fits grade 4 to adults.
Why are there no Pilgrim or Mayflower words?
These lists keep to the meal and the family, so they suit any class. History words live on the Thanksgiving list of the word scramble maker, linked on this page.
Can a word unscramble two ways?
No. Words such as leaf (flea), bake (beak) and recipe (pierce) were dropped after a dictionary check, so each jumble has one common answer.
