Questions and answers

What are the parts of a skateboard called?

The deck is the board itself, with a nose at the front and a tail at the back. Two metal trucks hold the four wheels, each wheel turns on two bearings, and grip tape on top keeps the feet from slipping.

What is an ollie?

An ollie is a jump with the board. The rider snaps the tail down with the back foot and slides the front foot forward, so that the front wheels lift first. Most flip tricks, the kickflip among them, start from it.

What is the difference between goofy and regular?

It is which foot leads. A regular rider stands with the left foot in front, and a goofy rider leads with the right. Riding the other way round from usual is called switch.

What is the difference between a grind and a slide?

In a grind the metal trucks run along the edge. In a slide it is the board itself. Both are done on ledges, rails and the coping of a ramp.
