How it works
Type a first name and this page draws it in big hollow letters that fill a landscape sheet, ready for crayons or markers. It makes names to color for a desk, a bedroom door or a whole class. Each name gets a page to itself, in 12 fat fonts and 3 looks, sized for Letter and A4. Names stay in this browser.

Type a name and choose the letters
Type a first name under Your name or names, or paste a class list with one name on each line. Each name is drawn as black outlines on white and sized to fill a landscape page. Bo prints as tall as the page allows, and Christopher still fits on one line. The font tiles switch between the 12 fat fonts. The sheet draws exactly what you type, so MAYA gives all capitals and Maya a first capital.
Pick a look: Outline, Bubble or Hollow
The Look menu changes the line around the letters. Outline is a bold black line around the true shape of each letter. Bubble puffs the letters up and rounds the corners off, which suits the youngest children. Hollow is a thin line that uses the least ink. Open More options for the Strength of the look slider, which makes any line thinner or thicker. Thick lines are easier to stay inside, and thin ones look neater on a door sign.
Print one page for each name
Every line you type gets a page of its own, so Maya, Theo and Zoe on 3 lines make 3 pages. A comma starts a new name too. The Previous and Next buttons under the sheet show each page, and the main button counts them, such as Print 3 pages. A set holds up to 40 names of up to 30 letters each. Download this page (PNG), below More options, saves the page on show as a picture for a slide or a newsletter.
- Leave the print window set to portrait. The name is already turned on its side to fill the sheet.
- Give out fat markers for Bubble and Outline, and colored pencils for Hollow. Patterns fill big letters well: stripes in one, dots in the next.
- In the first week of school, let each pupil color their own name as a desk sign. The finished signs help a visiting teacher learn the names.
- This page has no guide lines or dotted strokes. For pencil practice, the name tracing worksheet generator prints the same name as dotted letters to trace, in rows.
Questions and answers
How do I print a name for every child in my class?
Paste the class list under Your name or names, one name on each line. Every name gets its own page, and the main button counts them, such as Print 30 pages. A set holds 40 names. For a bigger group, print the first 40, then paste the rest as a second set.
Can it print a double name or a very long name?
Yes. A double name typed on one line, such as Mary Ann or Mary-Kate, stays together on one page. The letters shrink until the name fits across the page. A long name with a space, such as Christopher Robin, is drawn on two lines so the letters stay big. A name can run to 30 letters, and the line under the box says when one was cut short.
Do accented letters print correctly?
Yes. All 12 fonts hold the accented letters used in Spanish, French, German and Portuguese, so José, Zoë and Iñaki print as they should. Letters from further afield, such as ł, š or ž, are held by Titan One, Alfa Slab One and Graduate. In the other fonts your device swaps in a letter of its own, so check the sheet on screen first.
Are the names I type saved or sent anywhere?
Names stay in this browser, and nothing you type is sent to us. They are kept so they are here when you come back, and Start again clears them. Keep this design saves a copy in this browser too, and a second press removes it. Share link copies an address that holds the typed names, so anyone with the link can read them. Keep student names out of links.
What paper does it use, and how many pages print?
Each name prints on 1 page, so 6 names make 6 pages. The sheet fits both US Letter and A4 with a margin on every side, and the letters can run up to about 22 cm, nearly 9 inches, across it. A small line with this site's address prints at the foot. Card or heavier paper stands up better to markers.
