Questions and answers
What is a baby horse called?
A foal, until it is one year old. A young male is a colt and a young female is a filly, and those two names are used until the horse is three or four.
What is a female horse called?
A mare. In most cases the word means a female horse over the age of three, and a younger one is a filly. An adult male that has not been gelded is a stallion.
What sound does a horse make?
The cry of a horse is a neigh. A whinny is a gentle neigh, a nicker is a soft neighing sound, and a snort is air blown hard through the nose.
What do horses eat?
Horses are herbivores: they eat grasses and other plants, steadily through the day. Food that is brought to them, such as hay, is called fodder.
