How it works
This groundhog color by number set opens on a Groundhog in its burrow. Four more follow: with its shadow, in a top hat, asleep and in spring grass. Then a Calendar page, a Winter and spring tree and a crocus.

Shadow or no shadow
Groundhog Day is a tradition kept on February 2 in the United States and Canada. If the groundhog comes out of its burrow and sees its shadow, the saying goes, winter lasts six more weeks; no shadow means an early spring. Studies have found no link between the shadow and the weather that follows.
A Groundhog Day color by number for either answer
Groundhog and its shadow is the six-more-weeks sheet. For an early spring, print the Groundhog in the spring grass or the Purple crocus in the snow. The Winter and spring tree shows both on one grid.
- Brown fills 56 squares of the first sheet, so check the brown crayons before you hand it out.
- The easy Calendar page shows only a big 2; the detailed one adds FEB above it.
Questions and answers
Is a groundhog the same as a woodchuck?
Yes. Woodchuck is another name for the groundhog, a large ground squirrel of North America. All five groundhogs here are colored with the brown crayon.
How does a groundhog coloring page work as color by numbers?
Each square to color holds a number, and the key gives each number a crayon. On the first sheet 1 is blue, 2 is brown and 3 is black; the snow and the two front teeth stay white.
Can I print a ground hog day color by number for a whole class?
Yes, as many copies as you need. Each sheet prints on one Letter or A4 page with its key above the grid; uncheck Answer key on page 2 in More options so the colored answer stays off the printout.
