Why one more wrong answer out of 12 costs a letter
Each question is 100 ÷ 12 = 8.33 percentage points, close to the 10 points between two letters. So 4 wrong leaves 66.67%, and a fifth wrong answer, 7 right, drops to 58.33% and an F. Half a point is worth 4.17: 9.5 out of 12 is 79.17%, still a C.
Questions and answers
What is 8 out of 12 as a percentage and a letter grade?
8 out of 12 is 66.67%, a D, with 4 wrong. The fraction 8/12 reduces to 2/3, the same share as 10 right on a 15-question quiz or 20 right on a 30-question test.
What grade is a 9 out of 12?
A 9 out of 12 grade is 75%, a C. The quarter marks are the only scores above zero with a whole percent here: 3 out of 12 is 25%, 6 out of 12 is 50%, 9 is 75% and 12 is 100%.
What is 7 out of 12?
7 out of 12 is 58.33%, an F where 60% is the lowest D. It falls one question short, since 8 right is the first score that reaches a D. Your school's own pass mark decides whether either one passes.
Is 11 out of 12 an A, and what is a 10 out of 12?
11 out of 12 is 91.67%, an A, and the one miss an A allows. 10 out of 12 is 83.33%, a B. As fractions, 10/12 reduces to 5/6 and 11/12 is already in lowest terms.
What is the grading scale for 12 questions?
Miss 1 for an A, 2 for a B, 3 for a C and 4 for a D; 5 or more wrong is an F. At the bottom of the table, 1 out of 12 is 8.33%, the worth of a single question.
