Easter addition worksheets for grade 1

The page opens on Easter egg addition stories within 20: 9 eggs in the front yard and 5 in the back yard. Jelly bean subtraction is next in the menu: 15 jelly beans, 7 given to a friend. Choose 4, 6 or 8 under Problems, press Make a new sheet, then Print. The answer key follows on its own page.

Easter multiplication worksheets built on the dozen

Grade 3 multiplies by twelve and by six, since eggs come in dozens and half dozens: 5 cartons hold 60 eggs. Grade 4 carries 75 dyed eggs home in baskets of 8 and needs a tenth for the last 3. Grade 5 counts 15 hen houses of 36 hens.

  • Bring an empty egg carton and counters. Filling the twelve cups models the kindergarten stories and shows why 12 is 10 and 2 more.
  • A chicken egg hatches after about 21 days of warmth. Pupils count back three weeks on the class calendar from a hatch day they choose.

Questions and answers

When is Easter in 2027?

Western churches keep Easter Sunday on March 28, 2027, the date United States school calendars follow. Orthodox churches keep it on May 2, 2027. In 2028 both fall on April 16.

Why does the date of Easter change?

Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon of the church calendar on or after March 21. In the Western calendar that puts it between March 22 and April 25.

How many eggs are in a dozen?

Twelve, and half a dozen is six. The grade 3 fact sheet multiplies by both: 5 cartons of a dozen hold 60 eggs, and 9 half-dozen cartons hold 54.

Do the problems cover the religious side of Easter?

No. The stories stay with egg hunts, baskets, chicks, bunnies and jelly beans, so they suit any classroom. Rabbits appear as animals, and no named character is used.

All 16 sheet types

Kindergarten 4

  • Easter basket addition stories within 10 A basket has 5 blue eggs and 4 pink eggs, which is 9 eggs. An empty egg carton and counters model it.
  • Easter cookies: count how many cookies in all A row of 4 cookies and a row of 4 cookies make 8 cookies. Pupils touch each cookie once and say the number aloud.
  • Easter party: count the balloons and cookies in all 2 balloons and 4 cookies make 6 in all. Sums stay within 8.
  • Egg hunt subtraction stories within 10 10 eggs are hidden and the children find 4, so 6 are still hidden. Hide ten counters under cups to act it out.

Grade 2 2

  • Jelly bean jar subtraction stories within 100 A jar holds 90 jelly beans and the family eats 34, so 56 are left. Open a ten first, because there are no ones to take 4 from.
  • Town egg hunt addition stories within 100 The town hides 45 eggs in the park and 38 on the school field, which is 83 eggs. Add the ones first and carry the ten.

Grade 3 3

  • Dozens and half dozens of eggs: facts to multiply A dozen is twelve, so 5 cartons of a dozen hold 60 eggs. Half a dozen is six, so 9 half-dozen cartons hold 54.
  • Easter basket multiplication stories 7 baskets with 6 eggs in each hold 42 eggs. Each basket is one equal group.
  • Sharing the jelly beans: division stories within 100 9 children share 72 jelly beans equally and get 8 each. The matching fact is 9 × 8 = 72.

Grade 4 2

  • Baskets and chick boxes: what happens to the remainder? 75 dyed eggs go home in baskets that hold 8 each. That takes 10 baskets, because 75 ÷ 8 = 9 R 3 and the last 3 eggs still need a basket.
  • Easter multiplication: 2 digits by 1 digit A flat holds 30 eggs, so 7 flats hold 210 eggs. For 7 bags of 45 jelly beans: 7 × 40 = 280 and 7 × 5 = 35, which is 315.

Grade 5 2

  • Candy shop division: divide by 2 digits 540 chocolate eggs packed 12 to a bag fill 45 bags. Check with 45 × 12 = 540.
  • Egg farm multiplication: 2 digits by 2 digits An egg farm has 15 hen houses with 36 hens in each, which is 540 hens. Split it: 10 × 36 = 360 and 5 × 36 = 180.

How this list was compiled: The stories, their wording and the teaching notes are our own work. The numbers are drawn fresh for every sheet and each answer key is worked out from the numbers printed on that sheet. A dozen is twelve and half a dozen is six by definition; no other outside fact is used. Egg, basket, chick and jelly bean numbers are invented for the stories.
