How it works
These phonics blends worksheets open on a sort of bl, cl and fl words. Twenty lists of eight follow: six l blends, six r blends, four s blends, nd and mp at the end, and three-letter blends such as str.

Pick the blends to sort
A sort takes five words from the list on show and five from each of the next two. Under More options, Word list: List 7 sorts br, cr and dr; List 13 sorts sn, sp and st; List 17 sorts nd and mp at the end against str.
Tr phonics worksheet, or any one blend
Lists 1 to 16 hold one blend each: List 12 is tr (tree, train, truck), List 2 cl, List 6 sl, List 13 sn. Choose Missing letters under What goes on the sheet and each word prints without its blend: __ee for tree.
- Short words such as flag, drum and jump are on the CCVC and CVCC page, linked under the tool.
- Words you type replace our list, but typed words cannot be sorted by blend: that sheet prints them to trace.
Questions and answers
What is a consonant blend?
A group of consonants with no vowel between them, each still heard: bl in black, st in last. A digraph such as sh is different: its two letters spell one sound.
Are there tr worksheets for kindergarten?
List 12 is the tr list: tree, train, truck, try, track, treat, trunk and trick. The grade is our suggestion, not a school's list.
Are there ending blends phonics worksheets?
Lists 17 and 18: nd at the end (pound, find, round) and mp at the end (champ, shrimp, stomp). A sort from List 17 adds the str words of List 19.
What are three-letter blends?
Three consonants in a row, all heard: str in street, spr in spray, scr in screen, spl in splash. Lists 19 and 20 hold them.
