Byte, browser, motherboard
The easy list is short terms: Mouse, Byte, Chip, Font, Pixel. Medium, the opening sheet, holds Cursor, Keyboard, Browser and Password. The hard list splits the machine into Software and Hardware, then opens the case: Processor, Hard drive, Motherboard.
For the computer lab
Use a sheet as a starter in a technology or keyboarding class. With hints on it doubles as a vocabulary list; untick Hints under the words for a harder quiz. New scramble jumbles Browser and the rest again.
- Software and Hardware pair up: pupils sort Processor, Motherboard, Spreadsheet and Operating system under one heading or the other.
Questions and answers
Which terms are in the lists?
Thirty in three lists: Easy has Click, Data, Email and Modem; Medium has Laptop, Monitor, Website and Network; Hard has Touch screen, Spreadsheet, Database and Search engine. No product or company names.
Is there a key for marking?
The key prints on its own page after the pupils' sheet. To print the puzzle alone, untick Print the answer key under More options.
Is a byte really eight bits?
Yes. A bit is a single 0 or 1, and eight of them make one byte. That is why Byte sits on the easy list with that hint.
Can I add the terms from our own unit?
Yes, such as the names of the apps your class uses. Type them over the words on the sheet, or in its last line, and the sheet follows as you type.
