Farm, sea and jungle
The easy list starts on the farm: Cow, Hen, Sheep, Pony. Medium, the opening sheet, swims with Octopus, Squid and Dolphin beside Cheetah and Jaguar. The hard list is the long names: Rhinoceros, Orangutan and Hippopotamus.
Hints that teach a fact
Each hint says one true thing, such as the cheetah being the fastest land animal. Leave Hints on for young readers or turn them off for a spelling race.
- After the sheet, sort the answers into mammals, birds, reptiles and others: Salamander is the only amphibian.
Questions and answers
What age is this animal word scramble for?
The easy list of 3- to 5-letter names suits kindergarten and grade 1. Medium suits grades 2 and 3, and the hard list, up to 12 letters, suits grade 4 and up.
Are the animals the same as the word scramble maker's?
No. The maker's animal list has Giraffe, Penguin and Zebra; none of its words is on this page, so the two give different sheets.
Does any animal unscramble two ways?
No. Wolf (flow), Horse (shore), Lion (loin) and Lobster (bolster) were left out because their letters spell a second word.
Is there an answer key for the animal word scramble?
Yes. Print gives the scramble sheet, then the answers on a page of their own, so you can mark Hippopotamus and Rhinoceros letter by letter without checking a book.
