How it works

These camping word puzzles are word scrambles of 30 camping words: the gear in the pack, the woods round the campsite and the sky at night. Each jumble has a hint, and the answer key prints on its own page.

Read the full guide

Pack, woods and night sky

The easy list is short words of the woods: Hike, Log, Pine, Creek. Medium, the opening sheet, packs Backpack, Canteen, Poncho and Kindling. The hard list ends the day: Marshmallow, Stargazing, Constellation.

For the trip or the classroom

Print a stack before a camping trip for the car or the tent, or use it in a camping-theme week. Each press of New scramble deals the letters again.

  • Sleeping bag is two words, and the answer line keeps the space: a good clue for stuck solvers.

Questions and answers

What age are these camping word puzzles for?

The easy list suits kindergarten and grade 1 with hints on, medium suits grades 2 and 3, and the hard list of 8- to 13-letter words suits grade 4 and up.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. Print gives the puzzle first and the answer key on a page of its own, so the grown-up can keep the answers in the tent.

Does any scramble have two answers?

No. Words such as Canoe (ocean), Trail (trial) and Ranger (garner) were left out because their letters spell a second word.

Can kids play it on a phone in the car?

Yes. Play shows one scramble at a time as letter tiles on a phone screen: tap the letters in order, with Hint and Skip for the tricky ones such as Mosquito.
