The page opens as a 50 US states word search, every name from Alabama to Wyoming. The line under the list says how many went in; if one was left out, press New puzzle. First 25 States, then Last 25 States, hide each state once across two sheets. Print or save as PDF adds the answer key on its own page.
A states and capitals review
Tick Show clues, not words, in More options, and each name gives way to its facts: "50th state, admitted on August 21, 1959. Census region: West. Postal code HI. Capital: Honolulu." With State Capitals the clues run the other way: "Capital of Alaska, the 49th state" is Juneau. Clues need room, so take words off the list until 10 are left.
- KANSAS reads inside ARKANSAS, VIRGINIA inside WEST VIRGINIA. The answer key rings both; the lists of 25 keep them apart.
- Easy States holds the 6 names of 5 letters or fewer: Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Ohio, Texas and Utah.
- Regions follow the Census Bureau, so Delaware and Maryland count as South. Type over the list if your textbook differs.
Questions and answers
Is this a United States of America word search with all 50 states?
All 50 names are in the list, checked against Wikipedia's list of states on 2026-09-19, and the two-word names, such as New Hampshire, are hidden without the space. The District of Columbia is left out because it is not a state.
Can I split the 50 states word search puzzle into a numbered set?
Yes, as two sheets. First 25 States, Delaware in 1787 through Arkansas in 1836, works as states word search puzzle #1. Last 25 States, Michigan in 1837 through Hawaii in 1959, is puzzle #2.
What grade is a fifty states word search for?
A puzzle of 25 names suits about grades 3 to 5 on an Easy grid, where words run only across and down. For middle school, pick Hard States, the 19 names of 9 letters or more, and press Hard.
Is there a puzzle for one state, or for America as a theme?
