From the seats to the set

The easy list is words every moviegoer knows: Film, Actor, Hero, Plot. Medium, the opening sheet, holds Ticket, Sequel, Villain and Cartoon. The hard list goes behind the camera: Screenplay, Projector, Clapperboard.

For a movie day

Hand out a sheet before a class film or a family movie night. Press Play to put one scramble at a time on the board while the room waits for the lights to go down.

  • Soundtrack and Screenplay are compound words: split each into its two parts before unscrambling.

Questions and answers

Are there movie titles in these word puzzles?

No. Titles and characters belong to their studios, so the lists hold only film words such as Premiere, Stunt and Soundtrack.

What grades are these movie word puzzles for?

The easy list suits grades 1 and 2, medium suits grades 3 and 4, and the hard list, with Clapperboard at 12 letters, suits grade 5 and up.

Does each scramble have one answer?

Yes. Words such as Director (creditor) and Cast (acts) were left out because their letters also spell another common word.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. Print gives the scramble sheet first and the answers on a page of their own, so you can hand out the puzzles and keep the key.

Can the whole class play at once?

Yes. Play puts one scramble on the board at a time as letter tiles; a pupil taps them in order or types the word, and Skip moves on.
