All 50 states, or one region
New scramble deals another ten of the 50. Under Start from a list are the four regions the U.S. Census Bureau uses, Northeast, Midwest, South and West, for a class that is studying one part of the map.
The capital is the hint
Each hint names the capital: Boise points to Idaho and Montpelier to Vermont. A two-word name keeps its space, so New York prints as two short mixes. For a harder sheet, untick Hints under the words under More options.
- Five names start with a direction: North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota and West Virginia.
- Four names start with New: New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico and New York.
Questions and answers
Does this unscramble the states worksheet come with an answer key?
Yes. Print gives the worksheet first and the answer key on a page of its own, on Letter or A4 paper, so pupils get page 1 and you keep page 2.
Can I print all 50 states?
Not on one sheet: a sheet holds up to 30 words. The four region lists hold all 50 between them. Pick a region, then press Add another at the foot of the sheet until the whole list is on it.
Which states are in each region?
The four regions of the U.S. Census Bureau. Northeast: 9 states, Maine to Pennsylvania. Midwest: 12, Ohio to the Dakotas. South: 16, Delaware to Texas. West: 13, Montana to Hawaii. The District of Columbia is not a state and is left out.
