One list for each branch and unit
Under Start from a list sit Legislative Branch (43 words), Executive Branch (51), Judicial Branch (46), How a Bill Becomes a Law (32), Elections and Voting (41), State and Local Government (40) and Principles and Symbols (41). The words name offices, never the people who hold them, and no party appears, so the sheet stays right after any election.
Trace a bill from the hopper to the veto
How a Bill Becomes a Law holds the real steps: Idea, Sponsor, Hopper, Committee, Markup, Floor, Conference, Enrolled, Signature, Veto. Tick Show clues, not words, in More options, and students name each step before hunting for it: "The session in which a committee debates, amends and rewrites a bill" is Markup.
- Grades 3 and 4: pick Easy Government and 8 words. Its 49 short words include Whip, Gavel, Mace and Clerk.
- High school: pick Hard Government and press Hard. Filibuster and Certiorari may then run backwards.
- Names over 14 letters, such as Electoral College and House of Representatives, cannot fit, so Electors and House stand in.
