- Two-word terms lose the gap in the grid: Home plate reads HOMEPLATE, and Pop-up reads POPUP.
- With Show clues, not words ticked, Pickle prints as its meaning: caught between two bases with fielders closing in.
Questions and answers
Which words are in these baseball word search puzzles, printable for a class?
One game's vocabulary in seven themes: the ballpark, positions and people, gear, pitching, batting, running and fielding, and the season. Fastball, Shortstop and Dugout are there, and so are Fungo, Southpaw and Sandlot. No league, team or player is named.
Why are Ball, Bat and Base missing from the lists?
A short word that sits inside a longer one could be circled in two places. BALL is inside FASTBALL, BAT inside BATTER and BASE inside BASELINE, so the short ones are left out. Type any of them at the end of the word list to add it.
What does pickle mean in baseball?
A pickle is a rundown: a runner trapped between two bases while the fielders throw the ball back and forth and close in. Both words are in the Running and Fielding list, each with its own clue.
What are a fungo and a southpaw?
A fungo is a practice fly, batted for fielders to catch, and also the long, light bat that hits it. A southpaw is a left-hander, especially a pitcher. Both are in the lists.
