How it works
This printable sudoku for kids opens on two easy 4 by 4 puzzles that use only the digits 1 to 4. The Grid menu has 6 by 6 for the next step, and no puzzle here is 9 by 9.

The three rules on a 4 by 4 grid
1. Every row across holds 1, 2, 3 and 4 once each. 2. Every column down holds them once each. 3. Every 2 by 2 box, marked by the thick lines, holds them once each. Start with a row, a column or a box that already has three numbers: the empty square takes the one that is missing.
Then 6 by 6
Choose 6 by 6 in the Grid menu for the digits 1 to 6, in boxes 3 squares wide and 2 tall. The Level menu has Easy and Medium. Medium fills in fewer squares: 8 of the 16 on a 4 by 4 grid, where Easy fills in 10.
- Open More options for Per page: 1, 2 or 4 puzzles, or one in large print for the board.
- A Name and Date line for the sheet is a check box in More options.
Questions and answers
What age is a 4 by 4 sudoku for?
As a rough guide, 4 by 4 suits ages 5 to 7 and 6 by 6 ages 7 to 9. That is our judgment, not a published standard. A child who knows the digits 1 to 4 can try the small grid.
Is this an easy sudoku for kids, printable with answers?
Yes. The page opens on Easy, the level with the most squares filled in, and the answer page prints last with small solved grids numbered to match the puzzles.
Does a child need math to solve sudoku?
No. Nothing is added or subtracted. The digits are only four different symbols, and the puzzle is solved by finding the one that is missing from a row, a column or a box.
Does every puzzle have only one answer?
Yes. The page solves each new puzzle before showing it and keeps it only if it can be finished in exactly one way, so a correct grid always matches the key.
