Jumps of 6 from 0 to 120

Skip counting by 6: 1 to 120. 3 blanks to fill in, in the counting strip.

How it works

Skip counting by 6 is counting in half dozens, and every second stop is a whole dozen: 12, 24, 36. This chart lights all 20 stops from 6 to 120, and each jump has a short note in the list further down.

Where the 6s sit

The ones digits run 6, 2, 8, 4, 0, the even digits in a new order. Every 5 jumps add 30, so 6, 36, 66 and 96 all sit in column 6, each alone in its row, while all the other rows hold 2 stops. Watch the jumps that keep their tens digit, such as 12 to 18, 42 to 48 and 72 to 78.

Jumps and strip

Find 66 + 6 = 72 in the list All 20 jumps, further down, to read its note. The strip gives 7 stops of the count with 3 or 4 boxes left empty. Type the numbers and press Check.

  • Draw boxes of 6 eggs and count box by box: 6, 12, 18, 24. Every second box completes a dozen.
  • Jump 6 as 10 forward and 4 back: from 48, one row down to 58, then back to 54.
  • An even number whose digits add to a multiple of 3 is in the 6s: 114 is, 116 is not.

Questions and answers

How many stops does the count by 6 make before 100?

Sixteen: 6, 12, 18 and on to 96, because the next stop, 102, is past 100. This page opens on 1 to 120, which takes 20 jumps and ends on 10 dozen. Choose 1 to 100 under Numbers on the chart to see the 16.

How do you count by 6 quickly?

Learn the first set, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, then reuse it: the next sets have the same endings with 30 added, 36 to 60, 66 to 90 and 96 to 120. If the 3s are known, say every second one: 3, 6, 9, 12.

Can I print this as a count by 6 worksheet?

Yes. Print 6 counting strips, under the strip, puts six strips of the 6s on one sheet and the answers on a second. Print the chart gives only the chart. Rows of the count are on skip counting worksheets: pick Count by 6s to 72.

All 20 jumps

6 to 30: the endings run 6, 2, 8, 4, 0 5

  • 0 + 6 = 6 Half a dozen. An insect has 6 legs and a die has 6 faces.
  • 6 + 6 = 12 A dozen. Every second stop from here is a whole number of dozens: 12, 24, 36.
  • 12 + 6 = 18 A dozen and a half. The tens digit stays put on this jump, from 12 to 18, as it does on every jump that starts from an ending of 0 or 2.
  • 18 + 6 = 24 2 dozen. For this jump, go 2 up to 20 and 4 more.
  • 24 + 6 = 30 The end of the first set of endings: 6, 2, 8, 4, 0.

36 to 60: back in column 6, 30 higher 5

  • 30 + 6 = 36 6 sixes, and 3 dozen. It sits in column 6 of the chart, three rows under 6.
  • 36 + 6 = 42 The days in 6 weeks, so the 7s stop here as well.
  • 42 + 6 = 48 4 dozen, and 6 eights: the 8s stop here as well.
  • 48 + 6 = 54 4 and a half dozen. An ending of 8 is always followed by an ending of 4: 18 to 24, 48 to 54, 78 to 84.
  • 54 + 6 = 60 6 tens, and 5 dozen. The second set of endings stops here, halfway down a chart to 120.

66 to 90: the third set of endings 5

  • 60 + 6 = 66 It sits in column 6 again, under 6 and 36, and it is 6 elevens.
  • 66 + 6 = 72 6 dozen. The 8s and the 9s both stop here, because 72 is 8 × 9.
  • 72 + 6 = 78 6 × 13, one jump past the end of a times table that runs to 12.
  • 78 + 6 = 84 7 dozen, which is also 12 sevens.
  • 84 + 6 = 90 A soccer match has 2 halves of 45 minutes, 90 in all. The ending is 0 again, as on 30 and 60.

96 to 120: the set that crosses 100 5

  • 90 + 6 = 96 8 dozen. It is the last stop on a chart that ends at 100, in column 6 of row 10.
  • 96 + 6 = 102 The first stop with three digits. From 96 it takes 4 to reach 100, and the last 2 land on 102.
  • 102 + 6 = 108 9 dozen, which is also 12 nines.
  • 108 + 6 = 114 114 is even and its digits 1, 1 and 4 add up to 6, so it passes the test for the 6s.
  • 114 + 6 = 120 10 dozen, and the last square of a 1 to 120 chart.

How this list was compiled: Own work. The count was worked out twice (6 times the jump number, then repeated addition of 6), and the same check checked every ending, every row and column on a chart 10 squares wide, every digit sum and every list of other counts from 4 to 12 that land on a stop (every stop of the 6s is also a stop of the 2s and the 3s, so those two are not listed). Facts in the notes were checked on Wikipedia on 2026-09-19 unless another date is given: an insect's three pairs of legs, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insect ; a die's six faces marked 1 to 6, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dice ; a dozen is twelve and half a dozen is six, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dozen ; 7 days in a week, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Week ; two halves of 45 minutes in a soccer match, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_football . The test for a multiple of 6 (even, with digits that add up to a multiple of 3) is the rule for 6 on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divisibility_rule , checked 2026-09-19. The dozens are sums from 12 in a dozen. Licence: own work
