Six sides of friendship

Kinds of Friends runs from Pal to Acquaintance. Time Together and Games to Share hold what friends do, including the games that need two: Catch, Seesaw, Checkers, Tandem. A Good Friend lists 21 qualities, and Staying Friends the habits that keep a friendship going, such as Listen, Forgive and Compromise. Keepsakes and Notes holds what friends make and keep, from Bracelet to Postcard.

Where friend words come from

A companion is, in Latin, someone you share bread with. Pal came from Romani, where it meant brother, and a comrade was first a roommate. To compromise is to promise together. Nickname began as an eke name, an extra name. Emoji is Japanese for picture character and no relation to emotion.

  • Seat pupils in pairs with one sheet: one reads the word list aloud, the other hunts, and they swap halfway.

Questions and answers

Is this friendship word search printable free for a whole class?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit on copies. Each press of New puzzle draws 15 words from the list again and rebuilds the answer key to match. Some words repeat, but pairs at different tables still get different grids.

Which list makes a friends word search printable for first grade?

Games to Share. Tag, Catch and Swings are playground words a first grader already reads, and Easy runs words across and down only. For older pupils, Long and Tricky holds the 54 words of 8 letters or more, up to Acquaintance at 12.

Does it suit the International Day of Friendship?

Yes. The day is 30 July, named by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011. For that day or the first week of school, pick Staying Friends and print it. Each pupil circles the habit they do best.

Why is the word Friendship not in the puzzle?

Because Friend is. No word in these lists sits inside another, so nobody circles Friend and then finds it again inside Friendship. The same rule keeps out Friendly and Promise, which hides inside Compromise. To use one anyway, type it at the end of the word list.
