Pick gods, heroes or monsters

The 188 words sit in 7 themed lists under Start from a list. They are Olympian Gods, Titans and Early Gods, Gods and Spirits, Heroes and Mortals, Monsters and Creatures, Places and Objects, and Myth Vocabulary. The Olympian list holds 13 names, not 12, because the ancient twelve end with either Hestia or Dionysus.

Swap the names for clues

Tick Show clues, not words, in More options, and each name gives way to what the figure is known for. Pupils read a clue about the Titan condemned to hold up the heavens, work out Atlas, then hunt for it. A clue says so when the story comes down from a Roman writer, as with Psyche and Arachne.

  • Grades 3 and 4: pick Easy Greek Myths, 56 short names such as Pan and Styx, and take words off the list until 8 are left.
  • Hera and Heracles never share a list, because HERA reads inside HERACLES. Pan and Pandora are kept apart too.
  • Grades 6 to 8: pick Hard Greek Myths, then press Hard. Hephaestus may run backwards, and GOLDENFLEECE has no space.

Questions and answers

Is there a Greek gods word search without the heroes and monsters?

Yes. Pick Greek Gods under Start from a list. It holds 35 gods and goddesses and nothing else: the 13 Olympians, then Hades, Persephone, Nike, Iris and more. Each press of New puzzle draws another 16 of the 35.

Does the Greek mythology word find use the Greek names or the Roman ones?

Greek, spelled as the titles of their English Wikipedia articles: Heracles, Odysseus, Hephaestus. Where pupils may know the Roman name, the clue gives it: "the Romans wrote his name as Hercules", "the Romans called him Ulysses".

Why does the Pandora clue say jar and not box?

The oldest telling says jar. In Works and Days, composed by Hesiod around 700 BC, Pandora opens a large storage jar. The word was mistranslated later. Every clue was checked against the English Wikipedia article for its figure on 2026-09-19.

Is this Greek myths word search the same as the ancient Greece one?

No. This puzzle is the stories: gods, Titans, heroes, monsters and the places they go. The ancient Greece word search is the history unit: city-states, wars, thinkers and the arts. The two share only Zeus, Athena, Olympus, Athens, Sparta and Myth.
