How it works
This body systems graphic organizer keeps every system on one page, so the links between them are easy to see. Other sheets take one system at a time, or two that work together.

Start where two systems meet
Begin with the respiratory and circulatory boxes. The two meet in the lungs, where the air a person breathes in comes into close contact with the blood. After that, ask each new system to claim a link to one already on the page.
A body system graphic organizer for one system
When a unit spends a week on a single system, switch to the one-system page. Its wide box asks what the system does for a partner and what it gets back, which is harder than naming the partner.
- Lists differ: some name ten organ systems and some eleven. Cross out a box your class does not study, or print the blank chart.
- Some organs belong to two systems. The nose is part of the respiratory system and is also a sense organ of the nervous system.
Questions and answers
What are the 11 body systems?
Circulatory, digestive, endocrine, integumentary, lymphatic, muscular, nervous, reproductive, respiratory, skeletal and urinary. The immune system protects the body from infection, but it is not counted as an organ system because it is not made up of organs.
What is a body system?
A group of organs that work together to do one or more jobs for the body. The stomach, the liver and the intestines, for example, are organs of the digestive system.
Which body systems work together?
Every system depends on others. Two clear pairs: skeletal muscles are attached to the bones of the skeletal system and power the body's movement, and the muscular system is itself controlled through the nervous system.
What is the integumentary system?
The skin, with the hair and nails. It protects the outside of the body and helps regulate its temperature.
