What grade 2 stories cover

Common Core 2.OA.1 keeps the five kinds of story from grade 1 and raises the numbers to 100, with the unknown in any place. It also names two-step stories; every story here has one step. 2.MD.5 adds stories about lengths in one unit.

With or without regrouping

The 2nd grade addition word problems worksheets start as a pair: the same six stories with no regrouping, then with regrouping in every sum. The subtraction group does the same.

Questions and answers

What is on a math story problems 2nd grade worksheet?

Which 2nd grade subtraction word problem worksheet comes first?

Books, buttons and bagels: take away within 100, no regrouping. The same six stories come again with regrouping in every subtraction, and a third sheet asks for the equation.

Are there word problems with pictures worksheets 2nd grade classes can use?

One. Two rows to compare draws both amounts in rows, lined up one to one, for compare stories within 20. Numbers to 100 are too many to draw, so the other sheets have no pictures.

How this list was compiled: Sheet types, stories and descriptions are our own work, written in October 2026. The sheet maker deals the numbers and names of every problem and works each answer out from them. On 2026-10-03, 3,152 problems on 464 sheets from every sheet type were dealt and each answer was checked a second way, against the numbers printed in the story and the number sentence of the key: 0 wrong. The story kinds and the grade limits were read on 2026-10-03 in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, https://www.thecorestandards.org/wp-content/uploads/Math_Standards1.pdf : grade 2, Operations and Algebraic Thinking, standard 1 (use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions) and standard 2 (fluently add and subtract within 20), and grade 2, Measurement and Data, standard 5 (use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve word problems involving lengths that are given in the same units). Every story on these sheets has one step. The standards are free to read and are copyright of the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers. Neither body has reviewed these sheets, and naming a standard does not mean anyone has approved a sheet. Licence: own work
